Zakat collected every year is spent within that year. It is spent on medicine, lab reagents, theatre gases and medicine. All in direct medical care. We have two fully trained and qualified people who assess every patient for zakat eligibility. Hospital issues a card to every registered patient so that they don't need to be assessed and evaluated repeatedly. those who are not eligible for zakat help are treated with Sadaqah and general donations.

What is Zakat?
Zakat is the third pillar of Islam. It is a method by which Muslims donate 2.5% of their wealth to charity. It is an act by which the giver and receiver both benefit.
Who must pay Zakat?

Zakat is compulsory for every Muslim adult who holds wealth above the Nisab amount.

What is Nisab?
Nisab is the term for the threshold figure at which point Zakat becomes obligatory. If wealth amounts to less than the Nisab, then no Zakat is payable.
Which of my possessions qualify for Zakat?
Zakat must be paid on any assets above the Nisab. This includes cash, shares, pensions, gold, silver, business goods and income from property investments.
Who must Zakat be paid to/are eligible to receive Zakat?

According to the Quran (Surah At-Tawbah: 60): “As-Sadaqat (here it means Zakat) are only for the Fuqara' (poor), and Al-Masakin (the poor) and those employed to collect (the funds); and for to attract the hearts of those who have been inclined (towards Islam); and to free the captives; and for those in debt; and for Allah's Cause (i.e. for Mujahidun - those fighting in the holy wars), and for the wayfarer (a traveller who is cut off from everything); a duty imposed by Allah. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise”.

Therefore, those eligible are stated below:

  • The poor who have no or low income
  • The needy who do not have a day’s food
  • Those employed to distribute Zakat
  • Anyone in slavery or captivity
  • Anyone in unmanageable debt
  • Anyone who fights for Allah (SWT)
  • Anyone stranded or struggling travellers
  • Those new to the Muslim faith or friends of the Muslim community

Is there any time of the Islamic year when it is best to pay Zakat?

Whilst Zakat can be paid throughout the Islamic year, it is believed the most reward is received during the month of Ramadan.

Can I pay my Zakat in instalments?

Yes. Zakat can be paid in full or in monthly instalments. Our donation page allows you to set up monthly donations for your Zakat, with peace of mind that the money will be used for the correct cause.
